The Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson has called on the private sector to lobby the city regions councils to ‘get on with’ the devolution agenda being offered by central government.

Speaking at an exclusive Roundtable event at Downtown Liverpool’s new HQ, the mayor expressed his frustration at the lack of progress that had been made by the Combined Authority in respect of devolution and the failure for a deal to be agreed with Westminster. “Liverpool could have and should have been getting the sort of power and resource that we now see Manchester getting, but we have allowed parochialism to get in the way of common sense. This is not about Joe Anderson or the leader of Wirral or Knowsley council – it is about the future of Liverpool and the city region.”

The Mayor will be on the panel of a Downtown business week event in June, discussing the impact of the forthcoming General Election result on Liverpool.
